Eddyfi Technologies: Reinventing the Office to Work Better Together
A global leader in non-destructive testing technologies, Eddyfi Technologies enlisted EMBLM to redesign its Québec City headquarters in response to the disruptions brought on by remote work. Through a strategic reduction in storage space, a complete overhaul of collaborative zones, and the integration of ergonomic solutions, the company transformed its offices into a modern, flexible, and people-focused environment — all in support of enhanced performance.
Thanks to this transformation, Eddyfi Technologies’ teams now thrive in a more fluid, comfortable, and human-centric environment — a shift that is reflected in their daily efficiency, engagement, and collaboration.
A Local Client with Global Reach
Founded in 2009, Eddyfi Technologies develops cutting-edge non-destructive testing (NDT) technologies, essential to sectors such as nuclear, aerospace, and petrochemicals. With a global footprint in over 110 countries and more than 750 employees, the company remains deeply rooted in Québec — a connection embodied by its co-founder Martin Thériault, a native of the Limoilou neighborhood.
A Forward-Looking Headquarters Needing a Present-Day Update
When the company opened Phase 1 of its headquarters at Espace d’Innovation Michelet in 2018, it aimed for an ambitious and sustainable design. Nothing was left to chance: ambient noise from the nearby highway was reduced, a neighboring stream preserved, sunlight optimized, and contaminated soil managed — each detail reflecting a desire to align technological innovation with environmental responsibility.
But in 2020, everything changed. The pandemic disrupted established norms and accelerated the shift to widespread remote work. Suddenly, this purpose-built, in-person office space felt too rigid for the new hybrid reality. It became clear that the workplace needed to be reimagined to support a more fluid and flexible mode of work.
Mandate Intrusted to EMBLM
Following a detailed analysis of needs and expectations, the project was structured around three core objectives:
– Decrease the number of enclosed offices
– Enhance ergonomics and increase the number of collaborative spaces
– Reduce surplus storage furniture
A Four-Step Process
1 : Identifying Actual Needs
A collaborative workshop helped define the number of workstations required in the medium and long term, while accounting for staffing fluctuations. Acoustic felt panels were also added to absorb sound, in alignment with the company’s Lean philosophy.
2 : Rethinking Spatial Organization
With fewer enclosed offices and reduced storage, we redefined the space layout to encourage flexibility and collaboration.
– Phone booths for private calls without disturbing common areas
– Semi-enclosed ergonomic lounge chairs with built-in tablets for isolated, comfortable work
– Small collaborative meeting rooms (2 to 4 people) for focused exchanges
3 : Transforming Common Areas
Several shared spaces were redesigned to make them more versatile and functional:
– Lounge areas for relaxed breaks, spontaneous conversations, or nomadic work
– A reimagined multifunctional cafeteria, now serving as a gathering and collaborative workspace
4 : Putting Ergonomics at the Center
Height-adjustable workstations, ergonomic furniture, and optimized lighting were integrated to reduce fatigue and promote healthy posture.
– Adjustable chairs, seating, and tables integrated throughout work zones to maximize employee comfort
– Monitor arms and optimized lighting to improve posture and well-being
Conclusion
This office redesign perfectly illustrates what a company can achieve when it takes the time to adapt to new ways of working. By reimagining its workspace, Eddyfi Technologies has succeeded in creating an environment that mirrors its culture of innovation — while prioritizing employee well-being.
This transformation is more than just physical — it’s a strategic evolution centered around people, fostering greater efficiency, collaboration, and engagement in everyday work.
